Bread

August 14, 2017

Bread.  Something that most of us have in our homes.

We hate bread when we are dieting and we love bread when we aren't!

Oprah has told us all how she "loves bread".  (You might only understand that statement if you watch Weight Watcher commercials.)

For the most part, it is inexpensive here in the US.  You can get a loaf as cheap as $1.00.  And most people here have easy access to bread, thanks to Walmart building on every corner.

I don't know about you.....and I'm embarrassed to admit........but we throw out bread all the time because we don't eat it fast enough before it gets stale.

We usually even have a couple of types of bread to choose from, too.

But in Uganda, bread is a special treat for most.  On one trip, my son Derrick wanted to take a small gift of simple staples to hand out in his village.  It included a small bag of sugar, some soap, a loaf of bread, some beans, a small bag of rice and a small box of tea leaves.  Things that they didn't have money to buy or access to get.

I'll never forget when one of the ladies said to me, "I never thought I would eat bread again".

This last week, I felt like it would be nice to treat the kids that live at Blessing Hands 4Children to a soda.  They live on beans and rice (which is more than some get), so I thought it would be a nice treat.  In addition to buying a soda for each child, Denis was able to also purchase a piece of BREAD!

I can't remember the last time I saw a kid get so happy to have a piece of bread!  Candy?  Maybe!  But not bread!

Just a little "food for thought"!  So let's all be like Oprah and "EAT BREAD".

As always, if you would like to help Blessing Hands 4Children with their monthly food costs, please use the donate button on our website!
